What if I were to tell you that I have the answer for you to reach all of your goals no matter how far fetched they are. It’s not impossible folks! Let’s say you want to lose 40 lbs before your wedding and you have 8 months. I’m about to tell you how you can get it done!! You’re going to look darn good on your special day!!
First, I’m going to tell you what I see from most people. When we set goals for ourselves we often reach for a goal that is way out in the distance but still reachable. We’re super motivated to get started because when you reach this goal your life is going to be enriched with success and you are going to feel great. But then something happens… You step up to the starting line and you look out into the distance and your goal now seems sooooooooo far out there that you start to think maybe it’s not possible for you to get there… Against all odds though you begin your journey. You’re about 15% to your finish line and you’re realizing that it’s harder than you intended. You look at your goal and it’s still waaaaay out in the distance. You begin doubting yourself again and now you’re starting to get tired from the rigorous journey you’ve embarked on. Then….. You quit…
Why did you quit?? I can tell you exactly why. It’s because you didn’t break your goal up into smaller manageable pieces. It’s like standing at the bottom of a flight of stairs that consists of several hundred steps and staring at the very top. That’s a long way up and it looks hard…. Instead of focusing all of your energy on the 200th step, focus on the 1st step. Take that step, then focus on the 2nd step, then the 3rd and 4th and 5th etc. When you are focusing on 1 step at a time you’re more then likely to succeed at getting there. Small successes keep you motivated. Before you know it you’re on the 75th step and still going! Losing weight is the same thing!!
If you’re goal is to lose 40 lbs, then break it up into manageable pieces. Break it up into losing 5 lbs a month or losing 1-2 lbs a week. Focus on reaching your weekly goals. When you reach your weekly goals just once you will be feeling success already. When you reach your weekly goals 4 weeks in a row, that means you’ve also reached your monthly goal of 5 lbs. Now you’re more motivated than ever. Now imagine you’re only focus is the 40 lbs. That versus being a month in and realizing you’re still 35 lbs away and losing motivation, I’d take the small victories any day. That is exactly what success is! A collection of small victories!
